FAQ for your Birthday Magician Professor Patches
Do you use live animals in your show?
No live animals are used during the show. This ensures no problem with allergies of the children, a mess-free show, no unexpected interaction with the family pets, and no liability issues at all with possible bites. My focus is to have the children be the stars of the show. And don’t forget: the puppetry of Rocky the Raccoon will have the kids believing he is real!
What if my child is too old for Professor Patches?
For older children, I perform as myself, Keith - The Magician. This show incorporates more sleight-of-hand magic and is specifically aimed at the 12 year old and up age range. Click here for more information on those shows.
Speaking of liability, are you insured?
Yes! This is very important. Though I’ve never had any problems or incidents, you’ll have peace of mind in knowing that I carry a $1,000,000 Public Liability Insurance Policy to protect my clients, the venues where I work, and myself in case of any unforeseen incident. My policy is underwritten by the International Brotherhood of Magicians, the world’s largest organization for magicians.
Be careful - many magicians claim to have insurance. They should be able to fax or email a current policy to you upon request.
How long does it take you to set up?
My set-up takes about 10 minutes.
What do I need to supply?
Because my show is self-contained, you’ll only need to provide the space for the show. Typically this can be the family room or living room. Other than that, I’ll bring everything needed for an exciting and successful show.

Do I need to pay a deposit?
No, definitely not. In 16 years of performing magic full-time for a living, I have never asked for a deposit, and the reason is simple: there’s no need. Here’s the bottom line - in literally thousands and thousands of shows, I’ve never found a reason to have your money in my bank account before the show. And because the Professor Patches brand has always been built on integrity, it leaves the focus on planning an exciting show for your event. Payment directly after the show has always been the established way of handling the fee.
I’ve received a fair number of calls from people needing an entertainer at the last minute because the magician they booked cancelled his performance at their event to perform somewhere else. In each case, the client had paid a deposit. The best guarantee is hiring someone with a great reputation and years of references from Southwest Florida families and event organizers.
